10 reasons to travel!

Travel liberates the soul they say, isn’t it? But what does that mean? We asked a few Rotaractors to give you some real-life stories. And this is what they said…

Gives you a break from routine

“After working in a perfect routine for months together, it feels so great to travel! Travelling helps me rejuvenate and come back to work in a different mood altogether. The difference in the environment and space really makes a lot of difference to my mental health.”

Makes you more tolerant towards diversities

“I as a person was stereotypical towards some particular religion. One travel incident helped me change my view greatly. When I was lost and wanted directions, a person from that particular religion came ahead and helped me a lot. Such incidences help you perceive people differently and beyond your own prejudices.”

Boosts confidence and makes you independent

“I was very scared to travel alone even for nearby distances. But, once due to a family emergency, I had to travel alone. That time I realised that by figuring out the directions and walking through the roads unknown to me, I could step out of my comfort zone boldly. Yes, I took some time longer to reach the destination but was glad I reached there independently.”

Makes your conversations more interesting!

“The more places you go, the more stories you gather. The more stories you have, the more interesting it is to listen. Even among unknown people, I have no problem to start and continue conversations since there are so many incidences and stories to narrate! Travel stories are my go-to for any occasion”

Builds your knowledge in many subjects!

“I never knew that travelling and having fun will increase my knowledge to this extent. After travelling to a particular place, you learn about their historic events, their geographic planning, their economic state and their occupations. You can also help people with the best bargains and the best local food to eat. Travel involves exploration and inspires you in so many ways”

Pushes you out of your comfort zone

“No, it is not just the adventure sports that push you out of the comfort zone. When I travelled abroad, I was very hesitant about the taste of the food available there. Though I could have chosen to eat the food I liked, I tasted the local food. I was so happy that for the first time I experienced and ate something that was not the routine food I had here!”

Gives you a wider perception of understanding things

“Different places have different cultures. If we are cooped up in the same place for long, we will never get to understand the reasons behind the birth of different cultures and their pattern of thinking. If you travel a lot, you will surely know that every monument/artefact has a different story and different concept. In fact, you will understand the whys and hows of the diversified population and locality only when you travel.”

Makes you more innovative and creative

“Travel inspires you. It comes as a breath of fresh air from the monotony. The newness of ideas, cultures and traditions helps you think in a more creative fashion. The billboards, the decoration or gardens, the way they maintain their holy places and many more aspects give you many ideas which you can implement in so many stages of your life.

Improves observational skills

“When you travel you are keener to look at even the slightest things. Especially if you are in an unknown place for the first time, you tend to observe and remember the landmarks, the shops and the hotels there. You also look for newer and different things. This improves your spatial ability to remember new roads and directions.”

Gives you time to ponder makes you feel grateful

Travelling makes you appreciate the things present in the world. “The best thing about travelling is, it shows me that there are people who are less fortunate than me and yet so happy with the fewer things. While travelling you don’t just come across the new places and their view, you come across the people who cry, laugh and who come from different walks of life. Sometimes we get so engrossed with our own misfortunes that we forget to count our blessings. Travelling gives you the moment where you can be thankful for what you have.”
